The Most Common Kitchen Sink Situations

November 11, 2024

#1 “Rusty” Sink

Stainless steel does not rust – just like our knives, forks and spoons! When spots of rust are found on the sink’s surface, this is the result of foreign Iron particles (from renovation works Example: drill dust) rusting on it. A classic example is the rusty paper clip mark at the top left corner of our insurance documents (kept in the cupboard for sometimes). We won’t say that the paper is rusting as it would sound silly, right?….. These rusty marks come for the iron paper clip rusting due to moisture in the air.

*Solution: First, wet the sink, apply CIF cream detergent and then polish the rusty spots away using a soft cloth (preferably orange color type for car wash). Remember to wet the sink thoroughly as water acts as a lubricant for the powdery CIF detergent. Do not use casual cloth as its rough texture will scratch the sink’s surface. It is not effective to use a sponge as it is too soft.

#2 “Condensation” Below Sink

This complaint is commonly referred to as “leaking” sink. Water droplets found below the sink are due to condensation. It happens when the air temperature inside the kitchen cabinet is warmer than the air outside. The greater the temperature difference, the risk of condensation is higher. So, please do NOT defrost your frozen food in your sink. A classic example is to take a can drink from the fridge and leave it on the table for 10 minutes. Your table will be wet due to condensation from the can drink.

*Solution: Do NOT defrost frozen food in your sink at all times. It is important to note that condensation can happen to all brands and types of sinks-even in 8mm thick granite sinks and stainless steel sinks with cosmetic undercoating paint. For warm kitchen cabinet (Eg: afternoon sun/warm air from floor trap). installing trendy ventilations rings (*below photo) on your cabinet door is good method to create ventilation. This will ensure the air temperature inside the kitchen cabinet is not too warm for automatic-condensation to occur.

***Important: Undercoating paint at sink’s bottom does NOT reduce or prevent condensation at all!
